Bédoin is one of the three main villages around the Mont Ventoux, located in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France.
A true hub for cyclists with many related businesses, brands and cycling cafes who established their base camp in the area.
The region is known for its diversity of landscapes, from picturesque villages, remote quiet roads, vineyards, lavender fields, pine forests, cypress trees and off course its proximity to the Mont Ventoux, often referred to as the ‘ Giant of Provence ‘
When to go?
The Mediterranean climate of the region ensures mild winters and hot summers, according to locals the region is most visited in spring, summer and autumn.
Of course as every mountain in Europe close to 2000m conditions at the top need to be studied before going up as conditions can change quickly on high altitude.
Are the roads any good ?
The Mont Ventoux with its lunar slopes near the top feels like a cycling festival in a good way.
Many different type of riders take on the challenge but the region has more to offer beside the Giant of Provence.
Villages such as Gordes down south or roads around Suzette and La Roque-Alric to name a few favorites are worth exploring.
You might want to make a stop at one of the wineries along the way for a break.
There is also a loop to do that goes all around the Mont Ventoux that is perfect for a longer ride on quiet roads.
Last but not least the famous Gorge de La Nesque are breathtaking. You can either take it up coming from Bédoin on riding it all the way down after passing the village of Sault.
To build your route we feel familiar with Komoot, the app shows you very clearly all type of roads and terrains, cycling highlight and makes building a gpx for your GPS device very easy.
Where to stay ?
Bédoin, Sault and Malaucène are the 3 main villages from which you can ride up the Mont Ventoux. All of them are good base camps for a cycling holiday. A good mix of local culture and soft cycling vibes.
Our recommendation goes for Bédoin where we enjoyed the diversity and several good cycling related hubs such as Pista Cycling Cafe to name one.
